Greetings Vi
llage People!
I’m excited to announce that Kamana.org is our new hub for Student Services for the Kamana Naturalist Training Program. There is much to help deepen the Kamana experience here-including video and audio lessons, articles about many angles of being a naturalist, weekly quizzes to keep you on your toes, and a community discussion forum specifically for Kamana students (note: the Kamana forum on the village will still be active, too!). It will empower community with Kamana students across the world and in their backyards.
I am also stoked to announce that Jon Young will be a regular contributor to the site! I’ve done a series of interviews with him and the footage is only available on Kamana.org. Jon is the primary author of Kamana and this will add a lot to any student’s experience.
Please visit the home page to get a sample of what Kamana.org is like. There are videos on the site as we speak. Including a sample video of Jon Young describing what a “Ka Mana” is in Hawaiian. We will also be posting some videos on the Village in the next few weeks.
If you are interested in hearing more about Kamana.org please sign up for the Kamana newsletter on the Kamana.org homepage. Also let me know if you have any questions about the Kamana program or Kamana.org.
We officially open for enrollment on Nov. 17th. Use the next few days to get a taste for what the site has to offer!
Sincerely,
Kamana Dan
Independent Studies Coordinator

Wilderness Awareness School currently has a Teaching Assistant position open for the Tracking Intensive. The Tracking Intensive meets one weekend a month for 9 months (including two 3-day weekends). Half of these weekends are held in the Puget Sound while the remainder held at other sites around the Northwest.
Two Teaching Assistants (TAs) will assist the program’s core instructors (David Moskowitz, Marcus Reynerson) in curriculum development and delivery, logistical coordination, transportation, site management, and student management.
This position is designed to help develop the TA’s technical tracking and educational skills and experiences, and support the development of future instructional staff for the school’s tracking programs. The position is also vital to the practical functioning of the program through such things as driving school vehicles, overseeing use of school facilities, and helping with coordination of students.
Responsibilities:
Attend all weekends of the class (unless prior arrangements are made).
Participate in monthly meetings to debrief previous month’s class and plan the coming month’s schedule.
Assist with driving school vehicles for away weekends and with coordination of travel plans.
Assist instructors in delivering program curriculum through leading field sessions, and individual mentoring of students during class.
Suggested participation in one of several on-going applied tracking projects (such as Cascade Wildlife Monitoring Project, Tracking Club, or Bioblitzs).
Compensation:
Free attendance to all Tracking Intensive functions. (NOTE: In the event of TA responsibilities conflicting with participation, TA responsibilities will be prioritized)
Tracker Evaluation: TAs will have the opportunity to participate in the Cybertracker evaluation at the end of the season.
Personal mentorship by core instructional staff.
Qualifications:
Excellent technical tracking skills with a focus on wildlife tracks and sign of the Pacific Northwest.
Experience and skill in Wilderness Awareness School’s educational and mentoring style.
Clean driving record (ability to drive school vehicles).
Preference will be given to: school staff members, and people with past participation in tracking intensive.
